The shine-dalgarno sequence is the site where the ribosome is recruited to translate the mRNA into a protein, and mutations in this sequence cause an inhibition of translation as the ribosome is less likely to bind to the mRNA and begin translation. The only mutation which would reverse these effects would be a corresponding mutation to the anti-Shine-Dalgarno sequence of the rRNA.
