Lying babysitter - thoughts?
My friend just fired her babysitter today. Yesterday she was supposed to babysit and got there late. She told my friend that she had not been able to get her car started, but today my friend found out that she had actually been late because she had been pulled over for speeding. I thought it seemed pretty harsh to fire the girl for getting a ticket - I mean, most adults who drive have gotten at least one over the years - but my friend explained her reasoning. She said she didn't fire her for being late (stuff happens) and she didn't fire her for speeding/getting ticketed - again, it happens to most adults - but she did fire her for lying, because, she said, "if I can't trust her to be honest with me, I can't trust her at all." What are your thoughts - do you think this was fair? Unfair? An overreaction or a straightforward consequence?
